Giant Schnauzer Critique
It was an honour to be invited to judge the Giant Schnauzer Club Open Show and Best In Show for All Three Sizes. I would like to express my thanks to the committee for their hospitality and to the exhibitors for their entries and making me so welcome. A memorable and fascinating experience. Thank you.
GIANT SCHNAUZER: Baby Puppy Dog (1) 1 Willets’ Philoma The Professional. Best Puppy Dog, Best Puppy In Breed and Reserve Best Puppy In Show All 3 sizes of Schnauzer. Promising black 6 mths, exuberant baby, a good size and breedy shape, dark oval eyes twinkling with mischief, plenty of brows beard whiskers, already a lovely deep chest, great feet compact with arched toes. Sound joyous mover. One to watch.
PD (2) 1 Milek’s Fabulous Black Buddha (Imp POL). 11mths black robust well built boy with plenty of substance and bone, liked his ears, teeth, whiskers, expressive eye, honest head, enjoying his day and striding out well. Like to see a teeny bit of weight off him. Great personality. 2 Killingbeck’s Avicli Ve Fi at Figosky (Imp CZE). 7 mths, black silver, excited to be here, devoted to handler, liked his legs and feet, happy on the move.
JD (4) 1 Houchin’s Philoma Simon Templar at Barnsdale. Best Dog, Best of Breed and Best In Show. All 3 Sizes of Schnauzer. 15 mths, gorgeous black, full of quality and promise, shape and size is spot on for age, bags of personality and ring presence, he’s got it all going on dark oval expressive eye, breedy silhouette complimented by deep chest, prominent breast bone, lovely arch in neck leads to a well laid flat shoulder, well put together, well balanced, strides out on the move with plenty of drive, sound each way, the full package. When he is mature with a more mature coat he could be unstoppable. 2 Parker’s Draxpark Face The Chaser. Reserve Best Dog. 15 mths, shapely, masculine dark oval eye, liked his neat v shape high set ears, nice level back, good overall balance, has a lot going for him, like to see more face furnishings. Movement is true each way. A promise of more to come. 3 Urbanowska’s Snakesbury Gibbs.
PGD (1) 1 Dedross’ Adacolm Leningrad. Almost 4, nice size, kind masculine oval eye, lovely high shape ears, he has a breedy outline and a nice arch of neck leading to correct flat shoulder, enjoying to move and show, a nice all round boy with gorgeous whiskers and brows. PGB (1) 1 Cox & Bowman’s Zarina Vom Schloss Ehrenberg to Grovelea (Imp DEU). 2.5 yrs elegant black/silver with a true harsh top coat, really lovely long whiskers and brows, she has a breedy outline, is feminine with substance, the sweetest dark oval eye, excellent bite, longish neck leading to correct flat lay of shoulder, deep chest, moving and showing well, confident, pushing hard in the challenge.
LB (4,1a) 1 Parker’s Draxpark Celebrity Chase. 18 mths, shapely with defined breedy silhouette, powerful girl who stands square, showing herself off, fabulous head furnishings, lots to like with deep chest and amiable temperament, a proper size for age and shape, moves well has compact feet, pushing hard in challenge. 2 Staples’ Riesenheim Over The Moon For Ruffhaus. 18 mths, nice shape and coat, good face furnishings, needs more time to fulfil her potential. Enjoys to move and show a sweet girl. 3 Malcolm’s Adacolm Russia With Love.
OB (2) 1 Veal’s CH Philoma American In Paris. Best Bitch and Reserve Best In Show All 3 Sizes of Schnauzer. 5 yrs, quality well balance proportionate black bitch with classic head, dark twinkling oval eye, well placed high set v shape ears, firm jaws, powerfully built yet retains her femininity, full of quality and breed points, including deep chest reaching to elbow, level back, strong loin, good spring of rib, stifles are angled with definition, feet face forward and are well knuckled, plenty of substance, loves to show off, a keen sound mover with plenty of reach and drive. Sound fore and aft. 2 Clay’s Philoma Lucia. Reserve Best Bitch. 3 yrs super black bitch, stands square, plenty of desirable breed points including dark oval eye, strong muzzle has that blunt wedge, wide nostrils, a powerful frame and sound movement. Loved her harsh outer coat. She was pushing at 1. She’s good quality and I was pleased to call her back in to award RBB.
Best Puppy In Show was White’s Funflash Rebel Rebel (Schnauzer Miniature). 11mths, black/silver dog, loved his stubby little moustache and whiskers giving that resolute expression, really neat high set v shape ears that fold forward just right, lovely broad chest and strong breastbone, a nice short loin, good spring of rib, he’s super smart, shows himself off and moves with reach and drive, sound each way, a little superstar.
Best Veteran In Show was Bawden & Brown’s Ch Khanate Gin Fizz ShCM VW (Schnauzer Standard). 13 yrs pepper/salt dog striking silver sheen to his gleaming harsh coat, the most fabulous whiskers beard and brows, immaculately prepared and presented, he’s in good condition with plenty of bone and substance. A really grand old boy and it was my privilege to judge him today.

1st Lockyer Miccosukees High Hopes. Just 6 month old, well boned P/S. Good sized head with nice reach of neck. Ample forechest and depth of chest for one so young. Well laid shoulder with good width. Nice topline with correct tail set. Moved OK but will improve with confidence. BDP BPIB
2nd Railton Lefenix Me Myself And I. 7 month old, nice sized P/S. Another promising pup. Slightly finer boned than 1. Nicely proportioned head. Good depth of chest and spring of rib. Little longer in loin than 1. Moved with nice drive. Bright future for both.

1st Lewington Dark Design Leebren Grand Calvera (Imp CZE). 14 month old Black. Stood alone but stood out. Well proportioned head. Nice reach of neck to well laid shoulders. Good depth of chest and forechest. Strong topline and correct tail set. Well angulated front and hind. Moved well. RBD

1st Lockyer Miccosukees Oklahoma 20 month old P/S. Nothing exaggerated about this boy but everything in its place. Harsh banded jacket. Moderately broad head of good length in proportion to his body. Good length of neck with well placed shoulders. Well boned. Nice length of upper arm well under body showing enough forechest. Well sprung ribs and short strong loin. Nicely toned throughout with good angulation. Held his topline well. Good foot placement on the move but I would love a bit more enthusiasm. BD BOB
2nd Toms & Daws Minnienoom Navigator. 3 ½ year old P/S. Very smart well presented dog. Good masculine head on strong neck. Nice square body with short loin. Good rear angulation. Moved well in profile.

1st Bawden & Brown CH Khanate Gin Fizz ShCh VW Nearly 13 year old P/S. This distinguished gentleman has nothing to prove and showed with an air of “Been there. Done that” He is a well built balanced dog of even proportions. Good head and strong neck. One ear slightly more expressive than the other but well set. Strong jaw and good bite. Balanced angles front and back. Moved well with relaxed attitude. BVIB

1st Lockyer Miccosukees In Pink. Just 6 month old P/S. Sturdily built pup of nice size. Great head and expression. Used her ears well. Lovely lay of shoulder with good length of upper arm. Strongly boned but not course. Plenty of chest with good depth. Lost out in challenge on hind angulation. BBP
2nd Railton Miccosukees I am Here with Lefenix. 6 month old litter sister to 1. Nice looking pup with feminine expression. Well proportioned head. Good shape and topline. Little more leg than 1. Lovely rear angulation. I would be interested to see them again in a years’ time.

Nice deep chest. Good jacket. Slightly sloping topline with correct tail set. Strong, well angulated hind quarters. Moved well. BB RBOB
2nd Walker Kathalan Black Widow. 2 year old Black. Strong, robust girl of nice size. Maybe a little heavy at the moment. Well proportioned head with neat eyes and ears. Good bite and jaw. Nice angles front and back. Enjoyed her day and moved freely.

1st Bawden & Brown Ch Amigris Ain’t Misbehavin at Khanate. 4 year old P/S. Lovely head and ears. Square and sturdy but had a real elegance about her. Good jacket. Well angulated front. I’d prefer a little more hind angulation but that said, she was the best mover of the day. Handler really got the best out of her, covering the ground well with reach and drive. RBB
2nd Morgan Leebren Midnight Star Gazer at Hexenmeister. Nearly 4 year old Black. Nice square honest girl. Nothing over the top. Nice balanced angles front and back. Would like a little more forechest. Moved well from front and aft.

2nd Fish Amorevita Blurred Lines for Riesenheim. 9 month old Black. Another very nice pup. Well proportioned head with nice ears when alert. Very nice angulation. Good jacket. Slightly sloping topline. Just a little longer in loin than 1. Moved well.

1st Woods Penbro Walking On Sunshine. 1 year old P/S. Stood alone but WOW. Very stylish young dog that caught my eye as soon as he entered the ring. I struggled to find anything I didn’t like. Lovely balanced head with cheeky expression. Strong neck with just enough arch to not look long. Shoulders laid well back and nice length of upper arm giving lovely reach on the move. Sturdy body with nice short loin. Great rear angles. Lovely drive round the ring, moving nice and straight from front and rear view. Can’t wait to see him all grown up. One to watch. BD BOB

1st Carver Oldbashurst Ko Phi Phi. 16 month old P/S. Square flashy lad. Nice sized head with keen eye. Good depth of chest and spring of rib. Good rear angulation gave him the movement to win the class.
2nd Johnson Marnimica Seven Wonders. 2 year old P/S. Nice sized cobby dog of good proportions. Correct jaw and bite. Nice head size and shape. Lovely expression. Good strong neck with solid topline. Balanced angles. Nice jacket. Moved well.

1st White Deansgate Lester Square. 5 year old P/S. Very smart neat package. Nothing exaggerated but still stylish. Well presented in good jacket. Lovely head planes and good strong neck. Good spring of rib. Nice deep chest. Little longer in loin than BD. Correct tail set. Moved well from all angles. RBD
2nd McDermott Lichstone Call The Wind. 19 month old P/S. Well made dog with nice bone and condition. Well proportioned head and keen expression. Still a bit of maturing to do. Lost out on movement today by avoiding the lines on the floor.
